Nintendo Wii Price Drop - Get It While You Can

Wii $50 OffAs expected on Oct 1st just in time for the Christmas season Nintendo dropped the price of the Nintendo Wii $50 to $199.99. But will you be able to buy a Wii near Christmas? If you're in for one you should get a Wii now. In the post we suggest three products you should consider buying at the same time to fully enjoy your Wii on the festive morning.

Every year since it's 2006 launch Nintendo has unable on purpose to supply stock of it's popular Wii console leaving punters to hunt down over priced bundles, bid high on eBay and otherwise beg, steal or borrow a Wii for the all important Christmas Day. Demand for Wii and it's family friendly and casual games means Nintendo has enjoyed market expansion into retail spaces the Xbox and PS3 simply can't get into becuase Nintendo's own content is primarily aimed at casual and gestural based gaming thats also fun and family friendly. Something the hardcore gaming consoles don't enjoy.

How can you optimize buying your Wii? Read on...

Wii Racing Wheel

Nintendo Wii Wheel

The first thing you notice about the Wii Racing Wheel is that they haven’t really pushed the boat out as far as the technology goes. The wheel has no fixed based and is operated by placing the Wii controller in the centre of the wheel, then holding it out in front of you and turning it in mid air.

That said, it only retails for around $14.99 and it does work. It can be an inexpensive present that provides a great deal of excitement and enjoyment. Holding the wheel out in front of you can cause some discomfort after prolonged use and it takes a little time to become familiar with it.

If you are struggling with the Wii Remote and Wii Nunchuk combo on Mario Kart this is certainly worth a try.

Why would you want an SD memory card for your Wii?

Sandisk 2GB SD Memory Wii 2

Well, out of the box your Wii contains 512mb (or 0.5GB) of memory storage. This is probably enough for the average gamer when it comes to saving your current progress in a game (“Game Saves”). It is probably not enough memory if you have downloaded Virtual Console and WiiWare games. It is also probably not enough if you start to store a good quantity of photos on your Wii and if you get the game Excite Truck, you can even download MP3s and race to those instead of the music in the game. All these actions will share the same space and if you engage in more than one of them, then 512mb (or 0.5GB) will almost certainly not be enough.

Wii Fit Plus Hands-On

Will this version actually get us off of the couch? We take the balance games for a test run.

One of the best features of the original Wii Fit was the balance games, given that the workout was too cumbersome due to all of the menu navigations. Wii Fit Plus is supposed to address those issues by including a way to play through the exercises without stopping. The game has also added 15 new balance minigames, several of which we were able to try on the show floor at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Typing with the Wii Remote is tedious and less fun than communicating the way god intended - through speech. Wii Speak is a microphone accessory placed near the video display, allowing voice chat with other Wii gamers via the free Wii Speak Channel. The product has great sound quality, large audio range and is easy to install by plugging into the USB port. Your Wii must however be connected to the internet to use this.
