Typing with the Wii Remote is tedious and less fun than communicating the way god intended - through speech. Wii Speak is a microphone accessory placed near the video display, allowing voice chat with other Wii gamers via the free Wii Speak Channel. The product has great sound quality, large audio range and is easy to install by plugging into the USB port. Your Wii must however be connected to the internet to use this.

When you purchase Wii Speak it comes with a one-time 16-digit Wii Download Ticket that lets users download the Wii Speak Channel from the Wii Shop Channel at no charge. Nintendo have confirmed that currently this is the only way to obtain the channel and therefore purchasing a 3rd party compatible product will not allow access.

The Wii Speak Channel allows users to connect and chat together from anywhere in the world. Wii Speak is sensitive enough to pick up conversations from an entire room full of people enabling families and friends to all get involved in conversations. Each user will be represented by their Mii, which will lip sync to their spoken words. In addition, users will also be able to leave audio messages on the Wii message board for other users, as well as make audio captions for their stored photos. Users can also share photo slideshows and comment on them.

Wii Speak Channel

Wii speak is unique in that it does not require you to use a headset. Many people find headsets uncomfortable and do not enjoy the hassle of wires and having to go through a 5 stage preparation before you get to play a game. Console gaming should be pick up and play, and Wii Speak keeps to this ethos.

Animal Crossing: Let’s go to the City is the first game to use the full capabilities of Wii Speak, allowing players to create and share their personalised worlds. Other games to support Wii Speak include The Conduit, The Grinder and Endless Ocean 2

Speaking to your friends and other gamers while playing online definitely adds another dimension to game play. Nintendo and other publishers will soon start to release more titles that support Wii Speak. This product is usual good quality you would expect from Nintendo and a worthwhile addition to any Wii Console.
